Bertha Ponsar Tangeman was born at Communia, Iowa, Feb. 24, 1852. She was married to Geo. Hargesheimer to which union were born three children, one daughter, Miss Laura, and two sons, Edward and George. The latter, George was stricken with typhoid while in the employ of the Illinois Central R.R.C., at Waterloo, and died on Feb. 28th, 1902, at the age of 24 years.
The husband, Mr. Hargesheimer, was called to his eternal home on New Year's Eve, 1876. On Nov. 28, 1878, she was united in marriage to August Tangeman, who, with the one son and daughter, and three step-sons, August, of Stein, Minn.; Andrew, of Lester, Ia.; George, of Lewiston, Mich., and one step-daughter, Mrs. Anna Sutcliff, of Mason City, remain to mourn her loss. Mrs. Emma Reams, also a step-daughter, died on Nov. 25, 1902. Her aged mother and one sister, Louisa, reside at Garnavillo, Iowa, and one brother, Robert, at Maynard, Iowa, Theodore, at Omaha, Julius and William at Lewiston, Mich.
For five years Mrs. Tangeman has been afflicted with palsy, and to the affliction was added the misfortune of a broken limb. She contracted bronchitis which resulted in her death on April 8th, 1909.
Her life and character have been one of which any might follow, and as a mother, she was the best. A kind neighbor, and a friend to all, aiding wherever and whenever she could. She has passed from earth to her Master and her reward.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, of which she was a member, April 12th. Burial in Monona cemetery.
