Theodore Simmons, father of Newnan Simmons, who has been ailing during most of the winter, died Tuesday about noon. Funeral services were held this afternoon.

Theodore P. Simmons was born in Oneida Co., New York, Nov. 25, 1833, died in Strawberry Point, Iowa, March 9, 1909, aged 75 years, 3 months and 12 days. Theodore lived in the vicinity where he was born until grown to manhood. He then came to Iowa in the year 1856. He was married in Sperry township, Clayton county, Iowa, to Harriet E. Simmons, Nov. 15, 1858. He lived in the vicinity of Strawberry Point, with the exceptions of three years spent in West Union, Iowa, again moved to Strawberry Point and located on the farm where he resided until his death.
He leaves a wife, one son, Newman A., his wife and little daughter Ruth, and three sisters also many friends to mourn his loss.
He was a kind and loving husband and father. A kind neighbor, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a smile and a kind word for all. He was an honest and firm friend. The passing away of such a man is a loss to the community in which he resided.
