John Elbling, a pioneer resident of McGregor and known throughout northern Iowa and Wisconsin, died at his home at McGregor Sunday morning, February 14th, at 11:20 o'clock. Mr. Elbling was born in Wittenberg, Germany, August 18, 1833, and at the time of his death was about 76 years of age. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and son, John, of McGregor, and numerous friends. Up to within a few years ago Mr. Ebling was a extensive cigar manufacturer of McGregor, employing a great many people in his factory, and was the first cigar manufacturer in Iowa north of Dubuque, starting in business at McGregor in 1859. Mr. Ebling was one of the old settlers and among the enterprising representative men of McGregor. The funeral services were held at St. Mary's church, McGregor, at 9:30 o'clock Wednesday morning, February 17, Rev. Father Lundon officiating, with interment in St. Mary's cemetery.
