Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 04 Feb. 1909. Colesburg column.
Leonard Ayers died last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rudolph Moser, at Oneida. The deceased had lived in this vicinity many years, coming here in 1847. Soon after coming here he learned the shoemaker trade with Jerry Page. Later he settled on a farm near Millville, which he owned at the time of his death. He was born in Oswego, New York, in 1830, and was therefore seventy-nine years of age. Two wives preceded him in death. Four sons and three daughters survive. The remains were brought here on Thursday and interred in the Brown cemetery. The relatives present were: Rudolph Moser and family, of Oneida; a brother, William Ayers, of Omaha, Nebraska; his son, William, and two daughters, of Wyoming; and his son, Ted, of Elma, Iowa. Friends of this city and the vicinity of Millville were also present at the burial. Mr. Ayers had been in feeble health of both body and mind for some time and death was but a release from his infirmities. Sympathy is hereby extended to the family and friends.
