Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 14 Jan. 1909.
Died, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas English, Jan. 01, 1909, Josie English, aged 21 years, 9 months and 12 days.
A bright, intelligent and promising young man is cut down at the threshold of manhood, stricken in his very prime, taken from the family circle, from friends and associates at the moment he had won place in the hearts of companions and friends, when the world without was so inviting and life seemed so promising to youth and manhood.
Born and raised in Clayton county, reared under strict religious influences and educated in business principles and for loyalty to his country and for right against wrong. He was respected and admired for his many noble qualities of heart and mind and held in high esteem for his manly character.
Besides the father and mother he leaves 7 brothers and numerous relatives and friends to mourn his death.
The sorrow awakens a deep sympathy among a large circle of acquaintances.
The funeral was held on Monday at St. Patrick's church, Monona, Rev. Father Hogan officiating. His pastor paid him a beautiful compliment, presenting for our emulation the many good points in the life of the young man and the devoted Christian.
At the close of the services the funeral cortege proceeded to the cemetery, where Josie was tenderly consigned to the tomb, to rest until he shall rise gloriously on the resurection morning.
