LUXEMBURG - The Rev. Richard G. Gaul, 78, of Guttenberg, formerly of Luxemburg, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021, at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.
Visitation is 2-8?p.m. Friday (today), March 26, Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, with 6?p.m. prayer service; and 9:30-10:30?a.m. Saturday, Holy Trinity Church, Luxemburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11?a.m. Saturday, March 27, at the church with burial in the church cemetery. Archbishop Michael Jackels will officiate, the Rev. Francis Fried and the Rev. Noah Diehm will concelebrate along with priests of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Funeral services will be live-streamed on Kramer Funeral Home's Facebook page.
Richard was born Sept. 17, 1942, to LaVern and Viola (Wulfekuhle) Gaul. He attended St. Bernard Seminary and was ordained June 1, 1968 at St. Raphael Cathedral in Dubuque. Fr. Richard's assignments were throughout Eastern Iowa for the next 46 years, including serving the Sacred Heart Parish at Oelwein, 1972-1977. Survivors include four siblings: Ron Gaul and Alfred Gaul, Luxemburg, Janice (Dan) Burke and Sr. Kay Gaul, OSF, Dubuque, and several nieces and nephews.
