Clayton County Register, Thur., 25 Oct. 1934.

Mrs. J. J. Kuehl died at her home here last Sunday, October 21st, at 1:30 a.m. at the age of 68 years, three months and fifteen days. She was born July 6, 1866, the daughter of John and Henrietta Ehrhardt, in Boardman township.

Mary Jane (Ehrhardt) Kuehl grew to womanhood in this township and on February 3rd, 1887, was united in marriage to J. J. Kuehl. They started farming on a farm near Communia, where they lived for four years, after which they moved to a farm in this township, which was their home until 1920, when they retired from farming to settle in Elkader.

Ten children were born to this union. Her husband and the following nine children survive to mourn her death: George of Cox Creek township; Carrie, wife of Chas. Reimer, and Marie, wife of Herman Reimer, both of Volga township; Fred, who lives on the home farm; Kate, wife of Henry Ba_rs of Communia; Hilda, wife of Dr. Wm. Dohrer, of Boardman township; Frances, wife of Jack Scullen of Wykoff, Minn.; and Mildred, at home. One son, Arthur, preceded her in death in 1921, at the age of 26 years. Twenty-six grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends mourn her passing.

Mrs. Kuehl was one of a family of seven children, two sisters dying in infancy and one brother, Charles, who died in 1925. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. John Mayville of Volga City and two brothers, John and George Ehrhardt of this place.

Mrs. Kuehl was afflicted with diabetes for a short time but this gave her no immediate concern until other complications set in. In September she was taken to Iowa City for treatment and after a stay of two weeks she returned to her home. Since her return from the hospital her health continued to fail until the Angel of Death relieved her. Everything was done by her loved ones to make her remaining days on earth as comfortable as possible.

The deceased was a faithful member of the Evangelical church here and the Frauen Verein from the beginning. She was always in attendance at the services and meetings when her health permitted and was ready with a willing hand whenever workers were needed for the various activities of the church. She will be missed, not only by family and friends, but by the church as well.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the late home and 2:00 at the Evangelical church. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating. Six grandsons were the casketbearers, as follows: Haldon Reimer, Orville Reimer, Milton Reimer, Harold Kuehl, Norbert Kuehl and Realto Kuehl.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Roland Reke and June Elaine of Mason City; Mrs. Chas Meusel, Charles City; Fred J. Ehrhardt, Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bottleman, Mrs. Chris Coonrod and Wm. Whitman of Oelwein; Mr. and Mrs. L. E.
