Clayton County Register, Thur., 30 Aug. 1934.
Mrs. R. H. Hagensick died in a Prairie du Chien (Wis.) hospital at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 24th, following a emergency operation. She reached the age of 53 years, two months and 23 days.
Alta Mae (Eckheart) Hagensick was born May 31, 1881, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Eckheart, at Arlington. She received her early education in the rural school near the home farm and grew to young womanhood on the farm.
She spent three years of her early life in Fargo, N.D., and later spent some time here in Elkader., where she met her future husband.
October 1, 1907, in Dubuque, she was united in marriage with Ray H. Hagensick of this place, and Elkader was to be her home the rest of her years on earth.
Four children were born to bless this union, namely: Pansy (Mrs. C. H. Chilson, Cedar Rapids), Harold and Rose LaVon, at home, and Lester, who died in infancy, December 23, 191_.
Besides her sorrowing husband and three children, she is survived by four brothers: Will and George Eckheart, Arlington, Iowa; Arthur, Elkader, and Frank at Muskegon, Mich. One grandson, John Chilson, also survives. Her parents preceded her in death.
Mrs. Hagensick was a quiet, unassuming woman, who placed her home above everything else in her life. She felt her purpose in life was to provide a home for her family, and this she faithfully did, even though she was in failing health, knowledge of which she withheld from her family.
Her friendly disposition, her desire to fill her chosen station in life, will make her passing doubly sad for her loved ones and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Evangelical church, with interment in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
