Joseph Farmer died July 23, 1934. His death was due to heat prostration that overcame him while plowing soy beans on the farm of Paul Olinger at Cox Creek.
Mr. Farmer was born in Cox Creek township in 1889. He received his early schooling there and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Mr. Farmer lived in Dubuque for about ten years and while there worked for Interstate Power Co., acting as street car conductor.
He leaves to mourn seven children, Donald, Robert, Dale, Marie, Dorothy, Mereta and Ruth, all of Arlington, Iowa, besides a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral was held from the farm of his uncle, Francis Farmer, in Cox Creek, to the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Cox Creek. Burial was made in the Sacred Heart Catholic cemetery. Rev. Father Boyle, pastor of the church, officiated at the church and cemetery.
Casket bearers were: Floyd Dittmer, Ben Smerud, George, Markus, John Michael O'Brien and Ed. Quinn, all of Strawberry Point.
