Clayton County Register, Thur., 26 July 1934.

Katherine Ehlich, the daughter of Frederich and Katherine Fehr Ehrlich, was born February 10, 1852, in Germany, emigrating with her parents to America in 1854, when she was two and a half years old. The family first settled in Ohio, where the father engaged in his trade as miller, renting mills in succession at Tarlton Niles, and Lancaster. At Niles she was a school-mate of William McKinley, who later became President of the United States.

The father's health failing, he was induced by relatives to come to Iowa. In 1865, in a covered wagon the family came to Giard, where he was engaged in farming for two years. Then they removed to Elkader, where he became connected with Louis Davis in the Elkader mill. Here, at the age of 17, she entered the millinery and dress-making business and continued in that business until her marriage to Edward Russell on September 08, 1875.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell thereafter made Elkader their home, with the exception of a short time spent in Dakota and Montana. On September 08, 1925, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, which was a most happy occasion, not only for them but for their relatives and their many friends as well. Mr. Russell passed away September 09, 1927.

To this union were born four children, of whom a daughter, Marion, passed away at the age of 1_ in Dakota. Surviving are the sons, Jesse of Scenic, South Dakota, and Ransom of Los Angeles, Calif., a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Buckman of Elkader, and four grandchildren, Lorraine Buckman of Elkader, and Orlo, Ruth and Helen Katherine Russell of Scenic, S. Dak. Of her five brothers and sisters, but one survives, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Paul, of Elkader. The two sisters were inseparable in love and devotion. There are also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the local Congregational church for nearly 40 years. During that time she was an enthusiastic worker in the Guild, where she held the different offices. In this society, in the Sunday School, and in fact in all the departments of the church life, she was always conscientious in the performance of her Christian duty. She was a member of Charity Chapter O.E.S. No. 152. She was the oldest member of the Guild and the Eastern Star at the time of her death. Less than a fortnight ago she and her daughter, Mrs. Buckman, entertained the Guild at its last meeting.

Thursday afternoon, July 19, Mrs. Russell, after a brief illness, was called to her heavenly home at the age of 82 years, five months and nine days.

"None knew her but to love her
Nor named her but to praise."

Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon from the late home, and the Congregational church, with the Rev. A. S. Kilbourn of Eagle Grove, former pastor, officiating. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.

Persons from out of town attending the funeral were: J. L. Russell of Scenic, S. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wilke, Fergus Falls, Minn.; Mrs. A. H. McKinney, of Charles City; Mrs. S. O. Jennings and Mrs. Jennie Davis, Volga.
