Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 July 1934.
Frank Warnecke, 67, died as the result of an electrical shock early Tuesday morning when he tried to recue a pet dog from the live wire, which had been broken to the ground during Tuesday mornings storm.
Frank and two of his brothers, John and Henry, reside on a small farm at three corners about three miles south of Elkader at the junction of Primary No. 13 and County Trunk G.
Frank and John had gone out in the yard to cut some limbs from trees which had been damaged by the storm. John soon discovered that there was electric current working among the trees and suggested that they cease work until after the high line, which passes there, was repaired.
About this time the pet dog of the Warnecke brothers approached the broken line and made a contact before Frank could reach him. Frank, however, continued his effort to rescue the dog and he received a jolt of 2300 volts from the high line. The shock did not kill him instantly and he was taken to the house and medical help was called. He died, however, before any aid could reach him.
Funeral services will be held at the late home this afternoon at one-thirty and at the Evangelical church here at two. Interment will be made in the East Side cemetery, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.
