Clayton County Register, Thur., 21 June 1934.
Eliza Jane Addison Sloan was born at Lanark, Scotland, on April 5, 1871. She was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Addison. At the age of eighteen years, she came to this country and made her home with Mrs. Margaret Sloan, in Highland.
On Dec. 3, 1890, she was united in marriage with Sam F. Sloan of Volga, Iowa. Since then they have lived in this vicinity. To this union were born four children: Margaret, William, Mae and Ray, the later two preceding their mother in death.
In 1913 the family moved into Volga, where they have made their home since.
At the age of 19 years Eliza Jane Addison became affiliated with the Presbyterian church here, of which she has always been an active and ardent member. Mrs. Sloan has ever proved herself to be a sincere Christian, a friend to everyone, taking constant interest in the welfare of her family, her church, her community.
She was taken ill a few months ago, of which she never recuperated. On June 16, 1934, without any suffering, she quietly passed away in her home, having reached the age 63 years, two months and 11 days. Left to mourn her death are her husband, daughter Margaret, and son William, both at home; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Edward Fikse, pastor, officiating. Interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery.
The casket was borne by Robert W. Duff, Albert Duff, William Smith, Allen Longmeier, Robert Scott and H. Oakland Probert.
