She was the daughter of Lars L. Hulverson and Isabelle Thompson Hulverson, and born in Read township on June 10, 1888. She attended the Elkader public school. On April 26, 1906, she was married to John W. Stoops, Jr., in Elkader. For about eight years they lived on a farm in Read township. Her husband died suddenly on November 7, 1919. For six years, from 1927 to 1933, she held the office of Recorder for Clayton County.
She leaves two sons, Malcom and Burnell, a sister, Mrs. J. W. Downie of Elkader, and two brothers, Lawrence Hulverson of Volga City, and George Hulverson of Butte, Mont.
