Clayton County Register, Thur., 19 Apr. 1934.

GUTTENBERG: Mrs. Jacob Buerkle, nee Cassie Meiser, one of this community's worthy mothers and true Christian women, peacefully passed away at her home here in Guttenberg on Sunday morning at the age of 76 years, nine months and two days, following an illness of a long duration.

Mrs. Buerkle was born at Butler, Penn., on July 13, 1857, where she grew to young womanhood and received her education. She was reared in the Lutheran religious faith. On Sept. 1, 1885, she was married to the Rev. Jacob Buerkle at Horene, Mo., where Rev. Buerkle was pastor of the Lutheran church for some time. Five years ago she came to Guttenberg with her husband and son Paul, to reside. The family also resided at Littleport, Elkport and in the State of Minnesota, at various times previous to coming to Guttenberg.

During her illness, Mrs. Buerkle was a patient sufferer and had hopes for recovery until the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond last Sunday morning. All that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest, was done for her to save her life, but all to no avail. Mrs. Buerkle was a person of a kind and loving disposition, and her greatest pleasure in life at all times was to do acts of kindness for her family and friends, regardless of how costly the sacrifices she made might have been, which won her many friends during life, by whom her memories will be forever cherished. To know her was to love and respect her. Her death is deeply mourned by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. G. L. Matthine, of Pine Island, Minn., and Mrs. F. E. Damm, of Elkport; one son, Paul Buerkle, of Guttenberg; five grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss her. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. J. F. Adix at St. John's American Lutheran church here Tuesday afternoon, with interment in the City cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near, which showed the deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her. One son preceded the mother in death 23 years ago.
