Clayton County Register, Thur., 01 Mar. 1934.
Mr. Wm. Klinkenberg was born Feb. 14th, 1867, on a farm in Farmersburg township. Soon after his birth he was made a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, and after due instruction in the word of God, according to Christ's command that they should teach them to observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Clayton Center, on April 2nd, 1872.
All these years, and even after he had grown to young manhood he spent, together with his brothers and sisters, at the home of his parents, learning through practical experience the work which he was to continue throughout his whole life.
On September 26th, 1889, he was united in marriage with Miss Moeller at Garnavillo, Iowa. He then, together with his wife, settled on a farm close to his parents. This farm continued to be his home until the time of his death. After 30 years of happy wedded life, sorrow was brought into the home by the death of his wife. This union had been blessed with eight children, two having died in infancy.
On September 14th, 1920, he was married to Mrs. Mary Ohloff, who since that time has been his constant companion, having served him in love and faithfulness during his declining years. Not only has she ministered to him for his physical well being, making ill health and pain as light as possible, but she has also ministered and cared for his spiritual well being, exhorting him to prayer and strength in every time of need.
For the past three years the health of Mr. Klinkenberg had been on a decline, and these declining years were made pleasant as possible by his children, who never tired of helping their father and of carrying out his wishes as far as possible. Throughout this time he never gave up hope for recovery, but on the past Saturday afternoon he fell into a coma and passed away at 1:45 early Sunday morning, death being due to heart failure. He died at the age of 67 years and 3 days.
He leaves to mourn, his children, Mrs. Wm. Volker, just having moved to Humbolt, S.Dak., Mr. Marvin Klinkenberg of Wagner township, Mrs. George Rehfeldt of Humbolt, S.Dak., Mr. Elmer Klinkenberg residing with his father, Mr. Carl Klinkenberg of Farmersburg township, and Mrs. Glendor Zurcher of Wagner township, besides 13 grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers, step-children, relatives and friends.
He was a life-long member of the local St. John's Lutheran church, devoting time and interest to the church.
May he rest in peace and the eternal light shine.
