Clayton County Register, Thur., 11 Jan. 1934.
Mrs. Anna Anderson died at her home in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, Dec. 30th, 1933, at the age of 72 years, nine months and 22 days. Mrs. Anderson's death came as a shock to the entire neighborhood, as no one dreamed the cold that had bothered her should prove fatal, even when a physician had been called. The day before she died she declared she was not ill enough to remain in bed. During the night she became much worse and at 6:30 Saturday morning she suffered a stroke and quietly passed away.
Mrs. Anna Anderson, nee Anna Nelson, was born March 8, 1861, in Nummedalen, Norway. When but an infant, she came with her mother and other members of the family to this country. Her father had died suddenly, after they had left their home and were on the way to the port from which they were to sail to America, but the mother continued the journey with her family and came to Blooming Prairie, Minn. There they lived for a few years, after which they moved to this community, that has since been her home.
On Jan. 3, 1881, she was united in marriage to Andrew B. Anderson, and they moved to the farm that was for them both their home until death. At the death of Mr. Anderson on Feb. 26, 1901, the mother was left alone with a large family, the youngest, Adolph, being only two years old. To this couple were born seven children, two of whom have preceded their mother in death, namely Benjamin, who as a young man met with accidental death July 24, 1906, and Johannes, who died in infancy.
Those who live to mourn her passing are five children: Adolph, at home; N. A. Anderson, of Osage, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Hanson, St. Olaf; Mrs. C. W. Powell, Elgin; and Mrs. Clara Brabham, of Elkader. Besides the children and the many neighbors and friends who mourn her passing, she leaves eleven grandchildren, one brother, Torkel Nelson of St. Olaf, and one sister, Mrs. Torkel Rierson, also of St. Olaf. Four sisters and two brothers have preceded her in death.
The deceased has since the organization of the Highland church been a member of same. Before that she was first a member of the Norway congregation, then after her marriage, of the Marion church.
The funeral services were held from the Anderson home in Wagner township, on Jan. 2, and from the Marion Lutheran church at Gunder, with interment in the family burial lot near the church, the Rev. G. Gunsten, officiating. The pallbearers were all old neighbors and friends, namely: Joel Clark, Chris P. Larson, O. H. Larson, L. H. Larson, L. P. Larson and H. P. Larson.
For Christ, my Lord and Brother,
I leave this world so dim
And gladly seek that other,
Where I shall be with Him.
Blessed be your memory.
