Guttenberg: Ernst Wolter, long-time resident of Guttenberg died at Finley hospital at Dubuque on Tuesday evening of last week following an operation. Mr. Wolter had been in poor health for some time previous to his death. He was 82 years, six months and four days when called by death. Mr. Wolter was born in Germany on June 22, 1851, and when 16 years of age he came to America. Later he returned to Germany, where he was married 59 years ago, to Miss Elizabeth Zopes. After their marriage the couple came to America. They also resided at Chicago, Ill., at various times.
His death is deeply mourned by his wife; five sons, Anton, Lorenz, Joe and Charles, of Chicago, and Robert of Kirkland, Ill.; three daughters, Lizzie Wolter of Guttenberg, Mrs. Betty Moser of Osterdock, and Mrs. Christine Bockleman of Chicago; a number of grand and great-Grandchildren; one brother, Rudolph Wolter of this city; one sister, Mrs. Glassmacher of Germany, and many other relatives and friends, who will all sadly miss this good and true man. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. A. Jacobi at the Wolter home in Guttenberg, Friday afternoon, with burial in the city cemetery. The funeral was well attended.
