--

Funeral services for Mrs. John Liebenstein, 87, of Hubbard were held there last Thursday morning with the burial taking place in the afternoon at Council Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Liebenstein died at her home in Hubbard, Monday evening, Sept. 12, after being ill for two months.

As Sarah Wiethorn, she was born the daughter of Rev. Curt and Louise Wiethorn, Dec. 20, 1861, at Platteville, Wis. In her early years, the Wiethorn family moved to Clayton county, settling near Monona, where Rev. Wiethorn had charge of a rural pastorate, familiarly known as "The Old Stone Church."

She was married to John Liebenstein of McGregor, Dec. 27, 1888, where they made their first home. In 1890 they moved to Pearl City, Ill., where Mr. Liebenstein entered the mercantile business. Returning to Iowa in 1900, they lived at Whittemore, Alona, and Garner. In September, 1925, they moved to Hubbard.

After the closing of the Methodist church in Hubbard, she transferred her membership to the Salem Evangelical United Brethren church.

Although of a retiring nature, Mrs. Liebenstein had a zest for living. Her hearty chuckle had a lift to all who knew her. Her kindness was known by all whose life touched hers. There never was a needy person whose wants went unknown if she knew about them.

She is survived by her daughter, Agnes of Hubbard; daughter-in-law, Mrs. H.J. Liebenstein of Monona; two granddaughters, Mrs. Willis Mueller of Fredericksburg and Mrs. W.S. Grant of Burlingame, Calif.; and a great-grandson, Jack Mueller of Fredericksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died June 27, 1947, and a son, Harry.
