Elkader Register, Thur., 22 June 1905. Strawberry Point column.
The death of Gene Pollard, the youngest daughter of Walker Pollard and wife, occurred at her home last Saturday evening. Her sickness dates back several years, and it was advised by the doctors that a change of climate might be of benefit to her health so her mother accompanied her to California, but it did not seem to do much good. She then was taken to Chicago, but the doctors said there was no help for her. She returned home and has been confined to her bed nearly all the time since. She had the best doctors and care that could be had, but death claimed her and she passed peacefully away Saturday, after a long illness. Every wish was granted her and it seemed as though the family could not do enough for her. She grew to womanhood here and was a young lady admired and respected by all. She always seemed to have a kind word for all. Funeral services occurred at the home Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Brown, (her former pastor) of Wisconsin, assisted by Rev. Dean. A large number of friends paid their last respect to one that was loved by all. Her beautiful casket was covered with many handsome flowers. Besides her parents, two sisters and one brother she leaves a host of friends to mourn her death. We unite with the friends in extending the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy.
