Johann Heinrich Wehrkamp was born April 15th, 1818, in Hanover, Germany. In 1839 he came to this country. He was married to Elnora Sohmaear in 1850. Of the three daughters born to them, two have died, the one surviving being Minna Thiese. In 1858 deceased was married to Anna Marie Schlake in Ceres, Iowa. Seven children resulted from this union. Those still living are, Herman Wehrkamp, residing at Independence, Ia.; John W., in Read, Ia.; Anna Olendorf, in Marcus, Ia.; and Elenora, in Elkader, Iowa. Funeral services took place in Ceres church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Bunge. Interment in Ceres cemetery. Those from here in attendance were Julius Tuecke and wife, Mrs. Pahlas, Henry Schlake and wife and other relatives. Mr. Wehrkamp has been a retired farmer for more than ten years during which time he lived in Guttenberg. His age was 87 years and 11 days.
