Elkader Register, Thur., 16 Mar. 1905. North McGregor column.
Died, at her home in North McGregor, Sunday afternoon, March 12th, Mrs. Gerhart Wingen, aged 79 years, 6 months and 6 days.
Isabella Dahmen was born near Cologne, Germany, on the 6th day of September, 1825. There she grew to womanhood, and in June 1848, bade adieu to the Fatherland and sailed for America, coming to Milwaukee, Wis., where she made her home for about two years. From there she went to Sauk City, Wis. It was here that she met Gerhart Wingren, and on the 19th of November, 1852, was united in marriage with him. After their marriage they lived in Sauk City, until 1857, when they came to North McGregor, where they have since made their home.
Their married life has been full of tenderness and devotion to each other, each sharing the others joys and making their sorrows easier to bear. November 19th, 1902, their many fiends gathered at their home and helped them celebrate their golden wedding, which marked the culmination of fifty years spent happily together. To them were born seven sons and two daughters, one daughter and three sons of whom the Lord saw fit to take in early life.
Mrs. Wingen has been an invalid for a number of years, but has always been cared for with a loving thoughtfulness that will be a comfort to the bereaved ones to remember now that she is taken from them. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Isabelle, and four sons, Herman, Chris, John and Willie, all of whom reside here.
The funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church, McGregor, Wednesday morning, Rev. Father O'Donnell officiating. Interment in the Catholic cemetery. All the friends of the family extend their heartfelt sympathy.
