Elkader Register, Thur., 02 Mar. 1905. Farmersburg column.

Last Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Oelke, Sr., occurred the death of Mrs. Peter Bartels. Katherine Thompson was born in Holstein, Germany, Jan. 30th, 1834 and came to America in 1854. She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, one daughter, Mrs. Henry Oelke, of this place, one son, Fred Schoellerman, of Sioux Valley, Minn., one sister, Mrs. Peter Nichols, one brother, Peter Thompson, both residing in Garnavillo, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Relatives from a distance were Mesdames DeFountaine, Miller, Kroenchield, of Dubuque; Fred Andresen and wife, of Volga City. Funeral services were held here Sunday at 9:30, Rev. Braun conducting the service, also at Garnavillo. Her death was the result of the wearing out of nature, rather than of disease. She was a kind wife and loving mother, a good neighbor, beloved and esteemed by all who knew her. The floral offerings were large and beautiful. Burial in Garnavillo cemetery. The husband, children, grandchildren and relatives have the sympathy of all in this their bereavement.

Note:
She is buried as 'Mrs. Schoellerman' 1824-1905 as engraved on her gravestone in the Garnavillo City cemetery. Additional inscriptions on the stone are Peter & Ancha Nichols. According to the Oelke family album (link below) she was married 3 times, Mr. Heesch, Mr. Schoellerman and lastly to Peter Bartels.
