At the family residence in Elkader at about three o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, February 15th, 1905, occurred the death of Mrs. Henry Kottmann, after an illness of but a few weeks.
Lena Baars was born Feb. 29th, 1856, in Germany, and came to this country in 1870 settling in Cox Creek township. On April 26th, 1873, she was united in marriage with Henry Kottmann, to whom were born five children, four of whom, with the father, survive. They are: Mrs. J. F. Steen, of Boardman twp.; Louis, of Volga City; and Henry and Anna, at home. Louisa, wife of John F. Steen, died June 13th, 1894. She is also survived by four sisters: Mrs. John Seifert, of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Henry Reick and Mrs. August Timm, of Wykoff, Minn.; Mrs. Aug. Samp, of Spencer, S.D., and one brother,, Henry Baars, of Volga City. Her parents preceded her in death a few years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Kottmann lived on a farm in Cox Creek twp. ever since they were married until three years ago when they moved to Elkader.
It is sad that a wife and mother is called away, breaking up the fond ties of home. Deceased was a most worthy woman and will be missed and mourned among a large circle of friends.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Congregational church.
