Elkader Register, Thur., 09 Feb. 1905. Guttenberg column.
Sophia Gienecke was born in Guttenberg Aug. 30, 1876, and died in Pueblo, Col., Jan. 25, 1905. On account of failing health she went to Colorado about three months ago with the hopes that a change of climate might be beneficial, and which proved true for a short period of time, but a relapse came and on account of her weakened condition, all hopes for recovery vanished. She bore her sufferings patiently until death came as a relief. The remains were brought here for burial, arriving Saturday accompanied by Louis Giencke, brother of the deceased. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church Sunday, conducted by Rev. J. Janzig. Deceased was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Giencke, who very keenly feel her loss. Left to mourn her early demise besides her parents is one brother, Louis, each of whom have the heartfelt sympathy of the community.
(Note: The surname was spelled both ways in the article, as shown here.)
