Wilbur Earl Hyde, son of Lawrence and Ella White Hyde, was born May 28, 1895, and died November 12, 1962, at the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City, after a lingering illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Colesburg and Garber communities.
Mr. Hyde was a member of the Lemka-Stendel American Legion, Post No. 106, Elkader, and was a World War I veteran.
He was married to Irene Smith, July, 1924, and they were the parents of two children, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Friedlein, Colesburg, and Donald Hyde, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Mrs. Hyde died in 1927.
He was married to Gertrude Hansel of Garber, November 17, 1933, at Manchester, and they were the parents of a son, Buddy Hyde, Elkader.
Mr. Hyde was preceeded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife Gertrude and his daughter and two sons, a sister, Mrs. Cora Hansel, Elkader, and two brothers, Emerson Hyde, San Diego, Calif., and Russel Barnhart, Osterdock, one grandchild.
Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) Nov. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Witt Funeral Chapel, Elkader, with the Rev. A.F. Volle officiating. Burial will be at the Goshen Cemetery, Guttenberg.
Pallbearers will be Donald Hansel, Charles Hansel, Paul Hansel, Earl Lee, Bueford Barnhart and Floyd Smith.
