Edward C. Huckstadt, 59, who died at his home in West McGregor on December 26, was born May 16, 1896, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Huckstadt, on a farm near Clayton Center.
He was married Dec. 10, 1919, to Marie Wagner, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Wagner, southwest of Monona. They farmed in the Farmersburg, Monona and Elkader communities for a number of years. They also lived in Monona and Elkader.
During World War II they went to Savannah, Ill., where he was employed in the ordnance plant. The past year they have lived at McGregor, where he was employed in the McGregor electronics plant.
He served in World War I and was wounded in the battle at Allemains, France, being shot in the foot. He was awarded the Purple Heart as a result of this injury. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Veteran of Foreign Wars.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Chas. Schmidt.
Surviving are his widow and one son Lavern of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Schrader and Mrs. Gen Walter, of Farmersburg and Mrs. Alice Reardon of Des Moines; and two brothers, Arno and Elmer of Farmersburg.
Funeral services were held in the McGregor funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Leon Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery.
