Services are pending at Brant funeral home for a retired Chicago Great Western railway machinist, James H. Dittmer, 79. Mr. Dittmer, a resident of Oelwein the past 30 years, died unexpectedly Sunday at 10:15 p.m. at his home at 41 6th Ave. S.E.
He is survived by his wife, the former Goldie Benson, and two daughters, Mrs. J.L. (Harriett) Scott, Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Melvin (Helen) Shepherd, Indio, Calif. Also a brother, Ted, Colesburg.
Mr. Dittmer was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., Dec. 19, 1888, the son of Marline E. and Virginia Wiechersham Dittmer. He was a veteran of World War I.

Oelwein - Funeral services for James Dittmer, 79, who died at his home here late Sunday were to be Thursday afternoon at the Brant funeral home; surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. J.L. Scott, Fort dodge and Mrs. Melvin Shepherd, Indio, Calif.; burial was to be at Strawberry Point.
