Jeocham Harnack was born Oct. 1_, 1834, at Conon Sulz, Mecklenburg, Germany. Emigrated to this country in 1861, locating at Garnavillo. He was marred to Miss Dorothea Hahn June 16th, 1861. Unto this union were born 11 children, 3 of whom preceded the father in death.
Mr. Harnack was known to many, not only in Wagner twp., where he resided for the last 30 years, but also in adjoining towns, and a very large number of friends attended the funeral, which was held Tuesday afternoon at the Evangelical Church near his home in Wagner, conducted by Rev. Braun, assisted by Rev. Schuermann. Not only was he widely known but highly respected by all. Mr. Harnack has been ill for about 2 years and at times suffered much, but was reconciled to his fate. On Saturday morning the still holding thread of life was suddenly broken, having attained the age of 70 years and 16 days, leaving to mourn their loss his wife and 8 children: Ernest, of Plymouth Co.; Mrs. Doras Lenth, of Monona; August, of Murry Co., Minn.; Henry, of Wagner; Mrs. Mary Miller, of Monona Twp.; Frank, Lydia and Louis; besides 16 grandchildren and many relatives and friends. The remains were committed to mother earth to await the resurrection morn, in the cemetery connected with the Evangelical Church joining the old homestead.
