OBITUARY.
Michel Walters, son of Phillip Walters was born n Germany, Dec. 25th, 1833. He died Monday evening, Aug. 21st, 1904, after a short illness at his late residence in Wagner twp., aged 70 years, 7 months and 28 days.
He was the oldest of a family of eleven children, five of whom survive him: George and Henry Walters, of Clayton county, Iowa; John Walters, of Riceville, Iowa; Mrs. John Lembke, of Griswold, Iowa; and Mrs. Barbary Jones, of Black River Falls, Wis.
In the year 1838 the family emigrated to America and settled in Indiana, remaining there about ten years, then they moved to Clayton County, Iowa, and settled on a farm in Wagner township. The deceased was united in marriage to Louisa Eggiman, April 24th, 1861. As a result of this union nine children have been born to them: Mary, William, Mrs. Barbary Henkes, George, Louisa, Phillip, Verena, Cora and Henry.
Mr. Walter was a kind father, and an affectionate husband, ever ready to lend a helping hand to all in time of need, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. His sudden death is a great shock to his family and to the community, Mr. Walter only being sick a few days.
The funeral will be held Thursday at ten a.m., at the U.B. church, interment in the U.B. cemetery. We extend our sympathy to those who mourn.
(Note: Between two articles in this issue of the newspaper his name is given as Michel/Michael Walter/Walters.)
