Chas. Goodin, one of our respected citizens living near by died Wednesday night, Aug. 17th, 1904, after an illness of about a year. He will be greatly missed by all his friends. Charles Goodin was born in Pendleton, Niagara county, N.Y., Jan. 11th, 1853, and died at his home near Volga, Clayton county, Iowa, Aug. 17th, 1904, at the age of 51 years, 7 months and 6 days. He came to Volga December 8th, 1876, and was married to Mary Jane Leete Nov. 28th, 1878. The following March they moved onto the farm which has since been their home. To them were born three children, William C., Warner R., and Cora T., all of whom are still living in the parental home. He was converted and joined the M.E. church at Volga during the pastorate of Rev. E. G. Cooley, and died in the faith. His favorite scripture text, which he often quoted was John 14:2, "In my father's house are many mansions." Mr. Goodin had been a strong man, and a hard worker, providing well for his household, a kind father, a loving husband and a good neighbor. A year ago last January he was taken with kidney trouble and at times since he has endured much, but now he is at rest. He leaves to mourn their loss besides more distant relatives and many friends. the wife and three children, two brothers and one sister, Frank, Curry and Alice, living at Lockport, N.Y., one uncle, Mr. Chas. Woods of Volga. He was buried Aug. 19th in the Volga cemetery, from the M.E. church, Rev. Thos. J. Elwick officiating. A large number of neighbors and friends paid their last respects to the deceased.
