Elkader Register, Tr., 28 July 1904. Monona column.
The remains of Mrs. Louis Meier reached this city Monday evening from California, Mo., accompanied by her son F. A. Meier and her daughter Miss Gussie Meier. The funeral was held at the stone Church near Watson, on Tuesday, Rev. Hartke, of Giard, and Rev. Wersel, of Millbrook, officiating, the latter speaking in English and the former in German. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors of the family, who had long enjoyed an acquaintance with the deceased. Her age was 71 years. Mrs. Meier left Monona, which had been her home since 1867, for California, Mo., to reside with her son, in March last, with the hope that a change of climate would prove beneficial to a failing health, but He who guides and directs willed that but a brief spell should intervene, and on the 16th of the month the mother answered to the final summons. She was a good woman, a kind and indulgent mother, and her death brings sorrow to a large circle of relatives and personal friends. The burial was in the Kingsley Cemetery*, on Pleasant Ridge.
