Elkader Register, Thur., 23 June 1904. Garnavillo column.
Monday afternoon in St. Paul's church occurred the funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Schultz, wife of Herman A. Schultz, services conducted by Rev. W. K. Braun. Mrs. Schultz was born in Massow, Pomerania, Germany, Feb. 23rd, 1860. On Aug. 28th, 1888, she was united in marriage to her surviving husband. In the spring of 1884 they immigrated to this country coming directly to Garnavillo which was their home until this spring, when they moved to Lime Springs. Mrs. Schultz was a patient sufferer for a number of years until advised to undergo an operation, which was performed at Rochester, Minn., where she had been taken for treatment June 1st. Death relieving her Friday, June 17th. Besides the grief stricken husband five children, viz: Frank, of this place, Mrs. Mary Alitz, of Wheelerwood, Ella of McGregor, Anne and Adelia at home, are left to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted mother. Mrs. Schultz made many friends during the family's long residence here, who showed their last respect in both the attendance and the many beautiful floral offerings. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved ones.
"Dearest mother, thou hast left us
And our loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God that has bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is fled,
When in Heaven with joy we greet thee,
Where no more tears are shed."
