Elkader Register, Thur., 16 June 1904.
At about three o'clock in the morning of Wednesday June 8th, Janet J. Duff passed quietly from this world of sorrow and tears to that of peace and joy, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no death.
The deceased was born in Pittsburg, Pa., December 28th, 1853, and died in Highland twp., Clayton Co., Iowa, at the age of 51 years, 5 months, 10 days.
While Miss Janet Duff had not been in good health from an early age, her strength began to perceptibly fail during the last three years. Every thing that medical skill could perform or loving care could suggest was done to restore her. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church and in any religious services she was always a sympathetic and appreciative listener. She possessed a cheerful, loving nature and in all circles where she moved she attracted many friends. Through her long illness she was a wonderful example of courage and cheerfulness. Sympathy and gentleness were characteristic of her and through these channels she touched the hearts of all who knew her. The funeral service was held at the school house where she had always attended sabbath services, at one o'clock Thursday afternoon, and the esteem in which she was held was shown by the large number that gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. Many flowers covered the casket and filled the room, the gift of loving friends. A loving father, three sisters and four brothers are left to mourn her death.
Death's midnight is sad but there
comes the morning,
The pathway is dark but its ending is
nigh
Then patient we wait, for the glorious
dawning,
That's told in our teachings of life in
the sky.
