Albert Gerdes, a well known farmer of this township, died Sunday May 22nd, after an illness of several weeks. He was born in Hanover, Germany, April 23rd, 1837. In 1862, he was united marriage with Mary Dierks. They came to America in 1882 and settled in Clayton county. To them were born ten children, three boys and seven daughters. one daughter preceded the father in death. With the wife the following children survive to mourn the loss of father: Mrs. Patche, Fairmount, Minn.; Mrs. Annie Baseman, Elgin, Ill.; Mrs. Fred Athens, Manley, Ia.; Mrs. Wm. Schulte, Mederville; Scenie, Lena and Jacob, at home; Gerd, at Elkader and Michael at Doon, Ia.
The funeral services were held today at the Congregational church at this place, Rev. Braun officiating.
