At Mercy Hospital in Dubuque at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, Feb. 24, 1904, occurred the death of Wm. Roach. He had been in poor health for the past two years, both mentally and bodily. Mr. Roach was born in Boardman twp., April 10th, 1857, and for many years resided on the old home farm. In 1885 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary, the daughter of Dennis Hays, of Littleport. Five children were born to them, of whom two survive. Mrs. Roach died Jan. 17, 1895.
In 1896 Mr. Roach came to Elkader, and on April 27, 1897, married Margaret Collins, who, with two children, survive his departure. He is also mourned by two sisters, Mrs. Thos. Keleher, of Elkader, and Mrs. Daniel McCarthy, of Le Mars, Ia., and two brothers, Patrick, of Washington, D.C., and Michael, of Emmettsburg, Ia. All were present at the funeral except Patrick. Among those who attended the last sad rites were Miss E. Hays and Mrs. Alex Dorweiller, of Whittemore, sisters-in-law of the deceased, and D. J. O'Neil, of Dubuque, a brother-in-law.
The funeral services were held this morning at St. Joseph's church. Solemn High Mass being celebrated, Rev. Father Hogan, of Monona, celebrant, Rev. Father O'Donnell, deacon, and Rev. Father Reilley sub-deacon, Rev. Father O'Donnell delivering the discorse.
