Elkader Register, Thur., 20 Nov. 1902. McGregor column.

Joseph McHose, one of the few remaining first settlers in this community, died Sunday night. The remains were taken to Whitewater, Wis., Wednesday by his sorrowing widow, accompanied by Jas. Edward; there to be laid beside their children who passed away in infancy. Deceased was one of the best known and most highly respected men in this vicinity and his death will be sincerely mourned, and the greatest sympathy is felt for his life's companion left lonely in her declining years. He was 8_ (looks like 81 or 84) years old and had spent the greater part of his life here.
