Lauren Eckart
Lauren Eckart, the little son of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Eckart of this place died Tuesday morning after a brief illness of membranous croup. He was 2 years, 6 months and 12 days old at the time of his death. He was taken sick Friday evening but no apprehension was felt for his welfare till Sunday. On Monday the disease developed into membranous croup. Nothing that medical skill could do was denied the little sufferer, and he lingered along till Tuesday morning when death came to his relief. Lauren was unusually strong and bright for his age, but death is no respecter of persons, and in fact usually claims the fairest flower of the family. It appears indeed sad to see the life of a child so promising thus abruptly cut off by the messenger of death. But when we consider that it has never tasted the bitter sorrows that are scattered promiscuously along life's pathway, it appears almost a sin to wish it back to endure the afflictions that must surely come to those that reach the age allotted for man to live. Nevertheless it almost rends our heartstrings to be compelled to thus give up those that are near and dear to us. The death of little Lauren is a severe blow to his mother who is just recovering from a sever attack of rheumatism, and who even now is scarcely able to be about the house. The funeral was held yesterday with interment in the City cemetery. The Press joins the entire community in extending sympathy to the father and mother in this their sad bereavement.- Guttenberg Press
