Elkader Register, Thur., 04 Sept. 1902. Guttenberg column.
Last Friday morning Louis Eberhard died at the home of his mother at this place. He had been afflicted with lung trouble for some time, but always entertained the hope that he would soon build up and be himself again. He left Guttenberg about 14 years ago and for about 8 years lived in Milwaukee. From there he went to Chicago and other cities and finally enlisted in the regular army. He was a member of Co. B. 8th Infantry and during the occupation of Cuba was stationed there. During the exposure of army life he contracted consumption and death resulted as above stated. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Eberhard of this place, and during his boyhood years will be remembered as a strong robust young man. On his return home about two months ago his most intimate friends scarcely knew him. Louie was always of a genial disposition, well liked by all who knew him. He was but 32 years, 10 months and 28 days old at the time of his death. He was never married and consequently had no one depending on him for support. This may have had something to do with his roving disposition. The Press joins in extending sympathy with the family.
