Elkader Register, Thur., 17 July 1902. Guttenberg column.
The lifeless body of Chris Rund, night watchman at the Excelsior factory, was found upon the floor by employees who arrived at the plant to start work last Thursday morning. Mr. Rund reported for duty the evening previous apparently in his usual health. One of the Nute boys remained at the factory until nine o'clock and reports that the watchman went around performing his regular duties. Heart failure is supposed to be the cause of death as deceased experienced more or less of that trouble before, and it is thought the storm of Thursday night had something to do with bringing on the attack. Mr. Rund came here from La Crosse a few years ago and ran the steam ferry "Norris" between this point and Glen Haven, which he later disposed of and for some time past has been employed as night watchman by the Excelsior company. Deceased was a Norwegian by birth. No relatives are left in Guttenberg except his wife. The body was taken to Waterville, Minn., for burial. His age was 58 years.
