Elkader Register, Thur., 05 June 1902. Strawberry Point column.
Mrs. Luana C. Carrier was born in Cairo, Green Co., N.Y., Sept 10th, 1812. In early childhood she moved with her parents to Caroline, Thompkins Co., N.Y., where at the age of fifteen years she embraced Christ and joined the Free Baptist Church. On the sixth day of September, 1829, she was united in marriage to Elder Samuel B. Clawson. In 1832, she, with her husband, moved to Fitchville, Huron Co., Ohio, where he died Dept. 6th, 1850, aged forty-two years. In 1859 she was married to Philander Austin and with him and his two children, Horace Camnor and Frank Austin, moved to Lodomillo, Clayton Co., Ia. In 1866 they moved to Strawberry Point, Ia., where he died in 1873. In 1878 she married Robt. Carrier, who died in 1886. Of the first union four children were born, Walter S., Asa N., Levi B. and Maria V. Walter S. died in August, 1851, in Ohio, and Levi B. died December 18_3, in Michigan. Grandma Carrier, as she was familiarly called, died on May 28, 1902, in the triumph of a living faith, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maria V. Huntington, of Strawberry Point, Ia., at the age of ninety years. She has fought a good fight, she has finished her course and has kept the faith and gone to her reward. She was a devoted Christian, a kind, indulgent and loving mother, dearly beloved by all who knew her, and her children called her blessed. She lived a godly life and died the death of the righteous. She has fallen asleep in the Lord and will be seen no more among the children of men, for God has taken her to his eternal home.
"Life's labor done,
Serenely to her final rest she passed;
While the swift memories of her virtues
Yet linger like the sunset lines,
When that bright orb has set.Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Huntington and wife, Thursday afternoon conducted by Revs. C. H. True and Bixby, of Edgewood, and A. F.
