John Berse, aged 68 years died Friday at his home in Volga twp., of cancer of the stomach. Mr. Berse was a good citizen and an honorable man and his death is greatly regretted. The funeral took place on Monday, Father Minogue officiating.

The subject of this sketch died at his home in Volga township, Friday, May 2nd, 1902, of cancer of the stomach. Mr. Berse was born in Germany and came to the United States about forty years ago. He first went to Michigan then to Kansas and from there returned to McGregor. He was married to Mary Berns at McGregor, where they resided six years. They then went to Dubuque where they lived six years, and then came to Volga township where they have resided twenty years.
Deceased is survived by his wife, four daughters and four sons, Mrs. Fred Behrens, Mrs. Fred Schmael, Anna nd Katie, and John, Frank, Theodore and Edwin Berse.
By his death Volga twp. loses an upright, honorable citizen and the family a kind husband and father.
The funeral was held Monday, May the 5th, at the Catholic church at Elkport, Rev. Father Minogue officiating. May he rest in peace.
