Another member of Hervey Dix Post, G.A.R., passes away. This time it is John A. Peterson, whose death occurred on the 8th at the Soldiers Home, Marshalltown.
He was born in Galesburg, Ill., Jan.. 1st, 1851, and lived there until he enlisted in the army, on the 8th of July 1863. He served until the close of the war.
About five years were spent in Chicago, and then went to Chippewa Falls, Wis., where he conducted a livery business. He was married there and came here with his wife about eleven years ago. His wife was an invalid for several years preceding him in death a few months. He was worn out caring for her, and soon wasted away.
He went to the Soldiers Home about two months ago. The remains were brought here, and the funeral held Monday, Rev. G.A. Francis officiating at the cemetery.
Mr. Peterson's little adopted son, George, is alone to mourn the loss of both parents, and he has the sympathy of all.
