Patrick Hyde passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 6th, while setting on a lounge. He had been in poor health for the past four years, suffering from a paralytic stroke, but recently had taken a severe cold.
Mr. Hyde was born in county Tipperary, Ireland, March 9, 1829, came to America in 1848, first to Cole Spring, New York, and in 1856 moved to Clayton county, buying a farm in Boardman township. In 1866 he was married to Kate Keleher, who survives him. He moved to Hill City, Kansas, in 1884, where he remained until 1897 when he returned to Elkader. Seven children are living: Mrs. Thos. Gill, of Oelwein; John, of Hill City, Kansas; James T., T. F., P. J., Anna and Leo, of Elkader. Mr. Hyde was a good citizen and neighbor, as was attested by the attendance at the funeral held on Sunday at St. Joseph's church.
