Elkader Register, Thur., 06 Feb. 1902.

At her home in Elkader, at about 8 o'clock Tuesday morning, Feb. 3d, 1902, after a short illness occurred the death of Mrs. Henry Dohrer, in the 66th year of her age.

Mary Springer was born July 7th, 1836, in Phaderborn, Province of the Rhine, Prussia. In 1856 she came to America with her father, sister and brother. They settled in Warren county, Mo. On March 13th, 1858, she married Henry Dohrer, and they resided in Missouri until Oct. 15th, 1860. At this time they came to Clayton county and settled on the farm in Cox Creek where they resided until May 25th, 1890, when they moved to this place.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dohrer, of whom four with the bereaved husband survive to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and companion and a devoted loving mother. The youngest daughter Amelia, Mrs. Robt. Henry, preceded her in death some over a year ago. the children surviving are Mrs. Charles Lembke, of Cox Creek twp., Mrs. Martin Dittmer, of Elkader, Henry Dittmer, on the old homestead, and William of Oelwein.

The funeral was held this afternoon at the Congregational church, the service being conducted by Rev. G. W. Baxter of this place, and Rev. G. F. Braun, of Farmersburg. The large attendance of friends and neighbors attested to the respect for the departed. Our sympathy goes out to those who mourn, and especially to the aged husband whose home is broken up by the loss of his companion of so many years.
