Elkader Register, Thur., 09 Jan. 1902. Strawberry Point column.

DIED- At the home of her son-in-law, J. C. Kirk, in Edgewood, Tuesday morning, Dec. 24th Mrs. Laura A Sill. Laura Ann Scofield Sill was born in Schroon, N.Y. Feb. 4, 1833. Sept. 20, 1854, she was united in marriage to Harvey Newell Sill. Three children brightened their home, Mrs. Allie Margaret Kirk who died July 26th 1894, H. R. Sill, night editor of the Chicago Inter-Ocean, and one child dying in infancy. Besides, she leaves two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Madison, of Edgewood, and Hattie Scofield of this place, also two brothers, Geo. and Nathan Schofield, both of this place, besides other relatives and friends to mourn her death. At an early age she united with the Congregational church, which she attended regularly. She was also an active number and leader in the W.C.T.U. The principal decoration was a floral piece containing a cluster of white calia lillies and upon which was a bow of white ribbon, which had upon one streamer the magic letters, W.C.T.T. During her long years she was with us, she made many friends and it has been her aim that none should be the worse for her having lived among us. She had a theory of moral right to which she tried to live as near as her conditions and surroundings would submit. Her children were taught by her loving example, to love and fear God. Those who came in contact with her home life were enriched by it. She has gone from us and our hearts are sad, heaven has become her eternal home. Yes, God has truly gathered her to himself and in the morning we shall part. Funeral services were held here Thursday, Dec. 26th, at the Congregational church, Rev. A. F. Marsh, preaching a very appropriate sermon. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Interment in this cemetery.

(Note: The surname Scofield / Schofield was spelled both ways in the article.)
