Neuenkirch, Wilhelm 'William' Sr. 1793 - 1879

Elkader Register, Fri., 27 Feb. 1879.

DIED - At his residence in Cass township, Feb. 19th, 1879, A. C. Neuenkirch, Sr., of old age and general debility, aged 86 years, 1 month and 6 days.

Mr. Neuenkirch was born in Prussia in 1793, and emigrated to the United States in 1849 and settled in New York state. In 1858 he moved to Cass township, Clayton county, where he has since resided. He served in the war between Germany and France in 1813. He was a hard working, industrious man, and did some chores about the house the day before he died.

Although the newspaper obituary names him as A.C., the St. Sebald church burial records record him as Wilhelm. The birth & death dates match exactly those given in the obituary. Death certificate of his son Charles 'Carl' also gives his name as Wilhelm.
