DEATH OF RICHIE EVERALL.
Death has called for yet another,
And another one has been given;
One more blossom has been added
To thy garnered flowers in heaven.
His sweet voice no more will greet me,
With its welcome tones of love
Yet I know 'tis sweetly singing,
Mingling with the songs of love.
All my fondest hopes and prospects,
And my plans of future joy,
Now lie crushed - the idol shattered;
Ah ! that death should thus destroy.
All the way seems dark, my Father,
And I seem to tread alone;
Teach my weary heart to answer,
"Not my will, but thine be done."
He is not lost, but gone before me;
Shall my selfish heart complain ?
That he's tasting heavenly glories,
While I suffer earthly pain ?
Oh, my troubled heart, be quiet;
Oh, rebellious will, be still:
Let me never doubt my Saviour,
Though my cup with gall he fill.
When a few more years of sorrow,
Have rolled o'er this burdened heart,
Then in Heaven we hope to meet thee,
Gladly there no more we'll part.
There, once more, I'll see thy blue eyes,
Beeming with angelic love;
There we'll sing our Fathers praises,
In our glorious home above.
'Tis a link to draw me Heavenward,
One less link to bind me here:
Cease, my troubled heart, be quiet:
Cease to flow, oh, bitter tears.
Trust him to the hand that made him,
Trust him to a _aviour's care;
There he's waiting now to meet me,
On that shore - immortal fair.Farmersburg, Dec. 1878.
