Marilyn Jean Moose, 80, of Monona, Iowa died Monday, January 18, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. Marilyn Jean was born on July 7, 1940, in Luana, Iowa, to Theodore and Pearl (Wilke) Timmerman. She was baptized on May 22, 1942, by the Rev. Harvey W. Radwege at the Pilgrim E.U.B. White Church in Monona, Iowa. Marilyn attended the Figi Country School through the eighth grade and Monona High School in Monona, Iowa.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Albert Moose on January 19, 1957, by the Rev. A.W. Ebert at the Pilgrim E.U.B. White Church in Monona, Iowa. Four sons were born to this union.

Over the years she took a great amount of pride in preparing home cooked meals for family and friends. Homemade bread, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, pies and apple kuchen were some of her favorites to make. Nobody went away from her table hungry.

Marilyn enjoyed berry picking, gardening and fishing the Mississippi River and the Yellow River in her younger years. She also enjoyed playing Michigan Rummy, hosting the annual pre-deer hunting party, cookouts in the back pasture and especially when the Hermeiers came to the farm, cutting wood, supper and a good game of cards. She was a wonderful mother and housewife who also helped with milking the cows and all farm chores while farming in Moose Hollow/Suttle Creek.

Marilyn worked for over ten years for Wilke’s/Moore’s Grocery Store, in Monona, Iowa. She was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Parish in Monona, Iowa, including the UMW and coordinating funeral dinners for many years and was a member of the group, “The Young and the Rest of Us”. Above all things, Marilyn loved all of her family dearly and enjoyed attending their school activities over the years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include three sons, Leland Moose, Monona, Richard (Debbie) Moose, Monona, Douglas (Kelly) Moose, Luana; daughter-in-law, Lesa Moose, Monona; nine grandchildren, Donald (Anna Jones) Moose, Jennifer Moose, Terry Moose, Amber (Steven) Hendricks, Kelby (Molly) Moose, Kylie (Brier Bartels) Moose, Keagan Moose, Jarred (Shelby) Moose and Jordan (Dana) Moose; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Lainey, Riley, Damion, Joslyn, Logan, Ava, Ethan, Macey, James, Hazel, Cecil and Forrest and her sister-in-law, Dianne (Gary) Hermeier.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Pearl Timmerman; her husband, Albert Moose, in 1998; her son, James “Jim” Moose, in 2016; her grandson, Bill Moose, in 2009 and her brother and sister-in-law, Milo and Marie Timmerman.

A private family funeral will be held at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Deb Parkison as the officiant. The service will be live streamed for the public at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 21, 2021 on the Living Faith United Methodist Parish Facebook page.
Burial will take place in the Smithfield Cemetery, Monona, Iowa
