Elkader Register, Thur., 28 Dec. 1899. Elkport and Vicinity column.
Died at the home of his parents in Elkport, Dec. 23rd, 1899, of catarrh of the stomach, Herman A. Brown, aged 18 years and 2 months. Deceased was a son of William and Paulina Brown and was born and raised at Elkport. He has been a sufferer for the past year with catarrh of the stomach which baffled the skill of the best physicians. For two years previous to his being taken sick he was professor in music in Epworth Seminary, and, for one so young had gained high standing as a musician. Patience, time and money were freely spent to have their beloved son attended by medical aid and careful home care but of no avail, there was no hope. The funeral took place Tuesday, Rev. McIntosh, of Epworth, officiating. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
