Man Electrocuted at McGregor.
William Jones attempted to remove a live wire with bare hands and met death by electrocution at McGregor last Wednesday.
After leaving his home for his work Wednesday morning, Mr. Jones was overtaken by Chas. Kleinow and they proceeded toward the former’s blacksmith shop. An electric wire had been blown down by the storm of the previous night and the broken end of it lay on the side walk of the L. Jennings lot. The men noticed it and while Mr. Kleinow attempted to remove it with a wood folding rule which he carried, Mr. Jones kicked at the live wire and not heeding the warning of his companion attempted to throw it aside with his hand. The powerful shock of 2000 volts resulted in almost instantaneous death. The wire rebounding, struck Mr. Kleinow and threw him to the ground. He rallied quickly and noticed Mr. Jones lying unconscious with the wire in his hand and his coat smoking. He picked up a stone and broke the wire. As it broke the wire struck him with sufficient force to throw him down again.
When Drs. Thomas and Clark arrived Jupon the scene they pronounced Jones beyond medical skill, and all efforts to revive him proved useless.—Nord Iowa Herald.
